Obituary for Evelyn Margaret Kennelly (Stanlick)

KENNELLY, E. Margaret (neé Stanlick) -
WWII Veteran serving in the Woman’s Royal Canadian Navy as Leading Wren, Life Member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112 and Past President. Peacefully, on February 27th 2015 at Hillsdale Estates at the age of 90. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Donald for 31 years. She was the only child of Arthur and Anne Stanlick. She is survived by her cousins, Penny Robinson of London, Bonnie Huczik of Toronto and Wendy McKean of Willowdale. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Eugene Kelly (Alice Clarke) of Enterprise and her nephews and their families. Margaret received her education in Whitby and in 1943, at the age of 18, joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS), returning to Whitby in August 1946 on her 22nd birthday. Following her discharge, Margaret took a comptometer course and was hired by General Motors to work in the cost accounting department, which she did for 32 years. In 1969, Margaret became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 112 in Whitby. In 1972, she rejoined the legion and served as Treasurer and then President. She also served at the zone and district levels. Margaret was made a life member of Branch 112 in 1988. She was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the Legion’s Meritorious Service Medal for her many years as a director of the legion’s charitable foundation. Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Taunton Mills and Hillsdale Estates for the wonderful care and friendship she received over the years. Margaret will be resting at W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby on Friday, March 6th 2015 from 10:30am to 11:30am followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 11:30am. Cremation with interment at Union Cemetery, Oshawa. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Charitable Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112 Poppy Fund and condolences may be expressed online at www.wctownfuneralchapel.com.
