Condolence: My heart is broken and I’m at such a loss. Today I found out one of the kindest, loving men I have ever known passed away on October 18th, 2017 at the age of 90.
Reginald A. Winstall, May 25th, 1927 – October 18th, 2017 who was the head of guidance at Langstaff SS in the 80’s and was a phenomenal guidance councillor who truly cared about his students. For some of us he ran special groups to help us get through all we were going through, even to the point of taking us out to dinner and the movies.
When I left Langstaff in ’84, because my family moved from the area, Reg stayed in touch with me, checking in always to see how I was. Both he and his beautiful wife Mary even attended my wedding. In fact, if my grandfather wasn’t going to be able to walk me down the isle due to his strokes, it was Reg who was going to do it as my father refused to even attend, that’s how close we were. He was like a second father to me at times.
Over the years we continued to stay in touch both through letters, cards and phone calls, of course including pics of my girls as they grew and giving him updates. He always got so excited when I would call him for his birthday, shocked that a student of his would care enough to call and wish him a happy birthday. In 2010, I sent him a Christmas card with the usual family update letter, this letter had contained the news that our 2nd eldest Kimberly was going through chemo/radiation treatments for cancer. Now usually I would get a letter, card or phone call, but that year instead there was a knock at my door, and there stood Reg and Mary in person because they wanted to come and say hi, and let us know they were thinking of us and there if we needed them. Sadly, due to Mary’s severe allergy to cats and us having 2, they couldn’t come in to stay but I sat with them in their car for a while talking, and he called often to check in on how we were. We were supposed to get together in the summer, but sadly things happened and we didn’t and I’m really sorry to him for that.
This is just further proof of what an awesome man Reg Winstall was. He was one of the kindest, generous, most caring person I’ve ever known and I’m so honored to have known him and had him be part of my life.
RIP Reg, you truly will be missed, forever in my heart xo 💔 I am eternally grateful for the love and kindness you showed me throughout my life.
My thoughts and prayers are with Mary, your loving wife and your children Susan, Stephen and Michelle as well as your grandchildren and family.

Condolence: We are so sorry for your loss. A happy and funny memory I have is an Easter dinner at Vernons first house many years ago. Vernon had hidden chocolate eggs around the house for an egg hunt. With lots of excited squeals and crawling over people we turned into 5 year olds. Reg led the pack, running into all the rooms to locate the eggs. I think he won. In the coming days, I hope that many happy memories bring comfort and peace.

Condolence: Mary, Michelle and Vernon: I was shocked and saddened to read Reg's obituary in the paper. He was such a wonderful man. He was a good friend to our mother, Helen Ferry, and brought her holy communion daily, without fail, when she was sick. We will never forget his kindness. God bless and know our prayers and thoughts are with you all. Take care.
