Mathew Andrew  Sochocky
SOCHOCKY, Mathew Andrew –
Born July 17, 1935 in Ukraine. Came to Montréal, Canada in 1949. Studied at McGill University. Metallurgical engineer, who worked several years in Gaspé, Québec, then for more than thirty years in Pittsburgh, U.S.A., after which he returned to Montréal to complete the final decade of his career. Beloved husband of Christine (nee Popadynec) and the most loving, generous father to son Paul with wife Ivanka and to daughter Tala (Natalie) with husband Tobias Erdmann. The youngest and most recent love in his life is his two year old grandson Petrusyk (Peter). Of the broader family, he is survived by his cousin Orest Popovych. His life was full of hard work, music, interest in history, constant reading and travel both through work and for leisure. He was an active member of the Ukrainian community who showed deep concern for the current circumstances in Ukraine. Friends may call at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (North of Rexdale Boulevard), on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Panakhyda 7:30 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be held at the chapel of the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre, 1280 Dundas Street West, Oakville on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. If desired and in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Canada Ukraine Foundation Medical Missions (cufoundation.ca).
