The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Mary Shinn can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Shinn (Naughton)

Mary Elizabeth Shinn (Naughton)
Mary Shinn (nee Naughton) was called home on Monday, August 4th surrounded by her loving family. Mary had a zest for life and a fabulous “just say YES” attitude. Cherished wife of the late Leonard Shinn, Mary will be greatly missed by her four children: Karen, Stu (Lyn), Don (Pat) and Doug (Bev); her five grandchildren: Christie, Bryan (Blaire), Emily, Justine and Derek and her great-grandson Carter.

Mary had an ever-widening circle of friends and always counted Bob and Jean Bartlett and their family among her very treasured pals. Mary made friends wherever she went and will be missed by all who know her.

Whenever there was work to be done, Mary was there. She worked with Telco Community volunteers to make thousands of heart-pillows for Sunnybrook Hospital cardiac patients and was an active member of Victoria Park United Church. Mary was always on the lookout for creative ways to help her family, her friends and her community.

Up until her stroke, Mary was frolicking in the waves of Georgian Bay with her grandchildren. Spending time at Shinnook, her beloved cottage, was one of her special joys! She was always one of the first into the “pond” every season.

Special thanks to the team at Georgian Bay Hospital – ICU and Palliative Care - for making a difficult time a bit easier for our family; we are thankful for your care and compassion.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Saturday, August 16th at 11:00 am at Victoria Park United Church, 1 Stamford Square N., Scarborough. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Victoria Park United Church, Georgian Bay General Hospital or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

You will always be in our hearts Mum!
Peace out, Grandma!
God Bless…
