Obituary for Mary Francis Pidzamecky (Skwark)

Mary Francis Pidzamecky (Skwark)
PIDZAMECKY, Mary Francis -
Having received the Blessed Sacraments, Mary fell asleep in the Lord at Etobicoke General Hospital on October 22, 2012 at the age of 82 following a brief illness. Loving wife of Karol for 59 years. Beloved mother of Ray, Tom (Linda), and the late Rev. Subdeacon Michael. Devoted grandmother of Kira, Rachael, Derek; Aaron, Alexis and their mother Darlene. Dear sister of Michael Skwark and his wife Ruth of Winnipeg, and dear sister-in-law of Olga Pidzamecky (late Wasyl) of Toronto. Beloved Great Aunt, Aunt, cousin and godmother of family in Canada, the U.S. and Ukraine. Predeceased by her parents Patricia (née Sokol) and Nicholas Skwark of Winnipeg.
Mary was born in Winnipeg on January 2, 1930. After high school, she joined Julliard's Clothing as their in-house model. In 1953, she moved to Toronto where she married Karol Pidzamecky on June 20th of that year, followed by the births of Raymond (1954), Tom (1955), and Michael (1963). When the two oldest boys were still young, Mary opened her own floral shop, Royal York Florist. Later, she pursued antique upholstery and refinishing. Mary had a real flare for both fashion and decorating, which she enjoyed all her life.
In her youth, Mary was a member of the Ukrainian National Youth Federation, Winnipeg Branch, and also sang with the noted Oleksandr Koshetz Choir at the Ukrainian National Federation. In Toronto, Mary joined the Ukrainian Women's Organization, Toronto Branch, and was an active member until recent years. She was a parishioner of St. Demetrius the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church, where her devoted son Rev. Subdeacon Michael served as youth group director until his untimely death in December, 2010.
A loving and devoted grandmother, Mary adored her grandchildren, who brought her much joy in life. She leaves behind many loving friends, especially those with whom she shared her Ukrainian community life.
Resting at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue, (North of Rexdale Blvd.), Toronto, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24th (Panakhyda at 7:30 p.m.) Divine Liturgy at St. Demetrius Church on Thursday, October 25th at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville.
